ARB's new Air Locker™ Shim Driver is a professional automotive differential service tool specifically designed for the installation and servicing of differentials that use standard shim-based preload methods. Insufficient carrier bearing preload can lead to premature bearing wear and ring and pinion failure in all differentials, and can cause oil and air leak issues in Air Locker™ differentials. In the most common Salisbury-type axle assemblies (e.g., Dana Spicer Model 44), preload shims must be tapped into place to achieve the required preload. Tapping a shim into a tight space from a single point on its outer edge can damage the shim and render it unusable, resulting in additional costs and labor for the installation. Offered as part of ARB's new Air Locker™ tool range, the Air Locker™ Shim Driver consists of six different sized steel profiles designed to distribute the installation (tapping) force evenly across the entire outer edge of the differential shim during assembly. This allows for the insertion of thinner shims into tight gaps, which is difficult to achieve without a shim driver.
