In off-road driving, a strong and reliable recovery point is essential. However, the lack of an industry standard for rated recovery points has led to long-standing confusion among 4WD drivers. In light of this, ARB is striving to establish industry benchmarks for the design and testing of recovery points, and how they should be selected by 4WD users. Challenges include questionable or unverified mounting positions, confusion regarding the selection of rated shackles and straps, and the fact that universal tow points cannot safely handle the stress generated by angled pulls during vehicle recovery. Through vehicle-specific recovery point designs, ARB aims to make it easy for each user to find the right recovery point for their needs. Each vehicle-specific recovery point is rated for use with a 4.75t rated bow shackle and a 17,600lb snatch strap.
