The BMW G20 B58 Eventuri intake was developed to provide a less restrictive flow path to the turbocharger while keeping intake temperatures low. When designing an intake for a turbocharged engine, heat and volume are the primary considerations. In the G20, the intake system is located next to the exhaust manifold, and the engine bay absorbs heat rapidly. This is because the turbo must build boost with heated, less dense air. Therefore, the only way to minimize IATs (Intake Air Temperatures) is to use a fully sealed intake. However, this leads to the constraint of having only a single air inlet. During development, we noticed an additional opening in the wheel arch area and utilized this to add a secondary inlet to the airbox. Furthermore, the sealed airbox features a gold-reflective heat shield to minimize radiant heat transfer from the exhaust manifold. To maximize volume, we created a recess for the strut brace and made the airbox as large as possible. The stock convoluted intake tube has been replaced with a smooth carbon tube with a larger internal volume. The inner diameter starts at 111mm (4.4 inches) and tapers smoothly to match the turbo inlet. This tube provides a smooth path from the filter to the turbo inlet. Finally, we use a custom-made high-flow dry filter that has been ISO-tested for filtration performance and has a larger filtration area than the stock filter.
The pre-preg carbon fiber airbox serves two purposes: sealing the filter from engine bay heat and providing dual cold air feeds. Because the airbox is located next to the exhaust manifold, it is essential to seal the filter completely. Therefore, we designed an airbox that encloses the filter while simultaneously ensuring a large internal volume. To seal the intake tube, we designed a laser-cut plate with a rubber sealing strip that secures to the airbox. The intake tube passes through this plate, and the rubber seal prevents hot air from entering the airbox. To further minimize heat soak, we added a heat shield with a gold reflective layer on the exhaust manifold side, effectively suppressing radiant heat transfer.
Fully sealing the airbox creates the problem of restricted cold air supply. The stock airbox draws air from a single duct extending to the front bumper. During development, we identified the gap between the wheel arch and the chassis where the airbox is installed as another location to draw in cold air. To draw in cold air from this gap, we designed a scoop at the rear. This scoop protrudes into the wheel arch and remains visible even after the front wheel is reinstalled. This second feed allows the turbo to draw air from a wider area, reducing air resistance.

The G20 M340i B58 Eventuri system utilizes a patented carbon fiber housing and a bespoke Gen 2 filter to make the airflow from the filter to the turbo aerodynamically efficient. This is not just a cone filter with a heat shield; it is a unique design that induces the Venturi effect and maintains laminar flow to reduce turbo drag. The G20 B58 stock airbox system was updated on vehicles manufactured from November 2018 onwards, replacing the airflow sensor with a temperature sensor in the inlet tube. Prior to that, all airbox systems were equipped with an airflow sensor, so we offer two variations. The V1 intake features an inlet tube for the MAF (airflow) sensor, and the V2 intake is for vehicles manufactured from November 2018 onwards, equipped with a temperature sensor.
