At BC, we use a small-diameter grinding wheel during the finishing stage where applicable to our designs. More aggressive ramp rates improve cylinder fill rates. More air + more fuel = more power. Cam grinding takes longer, but research and development has proven that the inverse radius created by the small grinding wheel on the opening side produces more horsepower in radius and roller rocker applications than traditional large-diameter grinding wheels.
< br> All BC cams are inspected with high-speed measuring gauges with sub-micron precision. The Adcole camshaft measuring system uses individual measuring heads for each cam journal and cam lobe, taking one data point every 1/10th of a degree—that is, 3,600 data points per revolution—at a resolution of 0.01 microns. Brian Crower models measure camshafts for rise errors and chatter mark detection, and can measure 200 parts per hour.
