The only Honda engine designed for longitudinal mounting in the rear-wheel-drive S2000 (named for its 1997cc displacement). This is Honda's answer to high-performance, high-revving (8900 rpm factory redline) four-cylinder engines. Similar to the K-series engine in its mechanical roller cam profile and roller rocker followers, the S2000 engine is used in various racing applications. While the F20C engine was used in 00-03 USDM S2000s and 00-05 JDM S2000s, the F22C is used for the 04-up USDM chassis and replaced the F20C in the 2006 JDM S2000. Although similar in compression and cam specifications, the F22C has a longer stroke, resulting in increased displacement and torque.
