The elasticity of the strap is the major difference between a snatch strap and a tow strap. An ARB snatch strap stretches under load, whereas a tow strap does not. There are two advantages to this elasticity. First, the kinetic energy generated by the stretching assists in the recovery process, and second, the elasticity significantly reduces the likelihood of vehicle damage during recovery. The immense weight of a 4x4 vehicle and the resistance caused by the conditions in which it became stuck place significant stress on the strap's attachment points. Without elasticity, the risk of damaging the vehicle increases substantially. For vehicle recovery, a snatch strap is more suitable than a tow strap.
