The BP-51 (51mm bypass bore) series is the result of an exhaustive development process aimed at achieving the ultimate balance of comfort and control in a high-performance bypass shock absorber. Designed, developed, and tested entirely in-house by ARB’s Old Man Emu ride engineering team, BP-51 shock absorbers are vehicle-specific and utilize existing mounting locations, allowing for installation without the need for additional vehicle modifications. Unlike typical adjustable shock absorbers that allow adjustment of compression only, the BP-51 series allows for independent adjustment of rebound and compression while on the vehicle, offering superior customization for individual vehicles and driving conditions. While many shock absorbers produce damping force based on piston velocity, the BP-51 generates damping that is also dependent on piston position due to its bypass design. While many shock absorbers create damping through fluid flow via the piston, the BP-51 features an alternative path that flows around the piston through bypass passages. Some fluid passes through the piston, while some is bypassed through the passages. This allows for a comfortable, supple ride during normal driving while maintaining control over demanding terrain. All BP-51 shock absorbers are manufactured in-house to ensure the highest quality, and the bodies are constructed from aircraft-grade 6061 anodized aluminum, which dissipates heat more efficiently than steel or alloy steel and provides superior corrosion resistance.
