The advantage of the Air Locker lies in its pneumatically operated locking mechanism inside the differential. When activated, it prevents the internal differential gears from rotating, which in turn prevents the axle shafts from rotating independently of each other. With both wheels directly locked to the rotation of the ring gear, maximum traction is maintained at all times. When unlocked, it functions like a conventional open differential.
