First introduced to Japan in the spring of 2005, the Mitsubishi Evolution IX features the venerable 4G63 2.0L engine, but is equipped with new MIVEC technology (Mitsubishi Innovative Valve timing and lift Electronic Control), which features variable valve timing on the intake cam. The USDM Evo IX is available in three distinct models with subtle differences: RS, SE, and MR. The RS does not include options that come standard on the SE and MR, such as power windows and locks, rear wiper, rear spoiler, trunk interior, and trunk insulation. This saves approximately 60 lbs for improved handling characteristics from the RS chassis. The MR retains features from the Evo VIII such as Bilstein shocks, 6-speed manual transmission, BBS forged wheels, HID xenon headlights, accessory gauge package, special badging, and an aluminum roof. All models are equipped with Recaro bucket seats, Brembo brakes, and a Momo steering wheel.
