The advantage of the Air Locker lies in its pneumatically operated locking system inside the differential. When engaged, the Air Locker prevents the internal differential gears from rotating, which in turn prevents the axle shafts from rotating independently of each other. With both wheels locked directly to the rotation of the ring gear, maximum traction is maintained at all times. When disengaged, it functions just like a conventional open differential.
