Subaru EJ257 Stage 2 Street/Strip Camshafts by Brian Crower
At BC, we use smaller diameter grinding wheels in the finishing stages whenever applicable to produce more aggressive ramp rates for increased cylinder filling. More air + more fuel = more power. Cam grinding takes time, but R&D has proven that the reverse radius created by the smaller grinding wheel on the opening side can produce more horsepower in radius and roller rocker applications than traditional large diameter grinding wheels.
Every BC camshaft is inspected on high-speed measuring gauges with sub-micron precision. The Adcole camshaft measuring system uses individual measuring heads for each cam journal and cam lobe, taking one data point every 1/10th of a degree—3,600 data points per revolution—with 0.01-micron resolution. The Brian Crower model measures camshafts for lift error and chatter mark detection, capable of measuring 200 parts per hour.
