BC gaskets are made of stainless steel pre-coated with a uniform 0.2-micron layer of nitrile rubber that perfectly fills the cylinder head surface. Even on newly resurfaced cylinder heads or blocks with a surface finish or roughness of 10 to 15 microns, this nitrile rubber perfectly seals the surface at engine operating temperatures, unlike FKM types where the material is not suitable for filling surface roughness due to excessive heat resistance.
