The air filter is relocated to the driver-side wheel well to reduce intake air temperature and increase horsepower. The lower air intake tube is constructed from mandrel-bent aluminum with a durable gunmetal gray powder-coated finish for smooth airflow. The upper air intake tube is a rotationally molded aerodynamically designed HDPE tube that insulates the cold intake air from engine heat as it travels to the throttle body. This air intake system is engineered to accommodate the Lancer's factory emissions control devices, including the mass air flow sensor and PCV hose. The conical AEM Dryflow air filter is made from an oil-free synthetic filter media and can be used for up to 100,000 miles (approx. 160,934 km) before cleaning is required (depending on driving conditions). Some AEM air intakes are not legal for sale or use in California and other states adopting California emissions standards, while others are 50-state legal.
