When designing an intake for a turbocharged engine, heat and volume are the primary considerations. In the G20, the intake system is located next to the exhaust manifold, causing the engine bay to heat up rapidly. Because the turbocharger must increase boost with heated, low-density air, the only way to minimize IAT (Intake Air Temperature) is by using a fully sealed intake. However, this method typically restricts airflow as there is only one standard intake opening. During development, we identified an additional opening in the wheel arch area and utilized it to add a secondary intake to the airbox. Furthermore, the sealed airbox features a gold-reflective heat shield to minimize radiant heat transfer from the exhaust manifold. To maximize volume, the airbox was made as large as possible, including a recess for the strut brace. The stock convoluted intake tube has been replaced with a smooth carbon tube with a larger internal volume. The inner diameter starts at 111mm (4.4 inches) and tapers smoothly to match the turbo inlet. This tube provides a smooth path from the filter to the turbo inlet.
